Homes on the Hill Announces

Homes on the Hill, CDC is a private non-profit community development corporation serving the west and southwest parts of the City of Columbus and Franklin County as well as a portion of Madison County.  We provide a range of housing development and homeownership related counseling services.

We are contacting you in regard to the recently-passed federal budget which eliminated 88 million dollars in federal funding for HUD-approved housing counseling.  This will have a critical negative impact on our organization and on others like us nationwide. I doubt that I need to inform you about the various housing related issues in our district. The west and southwest portions of Columbus and Franklin County have been hit hard by the housing crisis and the recession. Homes on the Hill CDC has been at the forefront of working to improve housing conditions and to assist people through these difficult times.  We are valued by the community and especially by those who have used our services.  We have assisted thousands of homeowners with our programs.  The benefits of these services to individuals and their cost benefit impact on housing and related investments is well-proven.  Our homeownership and foreclosure counseling services have been important parts of our community response to the economic and related housing problems.

The current pending budget proposal for 2012 is our current concern: we are working to restore this funding.  We are also seeking alternatives to losing the 2011 funding, although the options are limited at best.  The 2012 budget is currently being reviewed and your comments are critical in helping to restore funding for housing counseling.

Please contact your local congressional representative or other local public official to express your concerns.  We would appreciate your support.
